On November 22, 1963, John F. Kennedy was assassinated in Dallas, Texas. Less than an hour after his death, his brain was removed from his skull and whisked away to the National Archives. For over 50 years, scholars and conspiracy theorists have been trying to figure out what happened to JFK’s brain. Some believe that it was destroyed or lost; others believe that it was hidden away for sinister purposes. For years, the answer was a mystery. In 1977, however, his brain turned up…but who took it?

After JFK was shot, his brain was removed by Dr. James J. Humes, the chief autopsy surgeon at the Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland. The brain was then placed in a plastic bucket and flown to Washington D.C., where it was stored in the National Archives. In 1973, the Assassination Records Review Board (ARRB) was created to collect and release documents related to the JFK assassination. As part of their work, the ARRB requested JFK’s brain from the National Archives. However, they were told that the brain could not be found.
Did the CIA remove JFK’s brain to cover up their involvement in his assassination? Did the Mafia remove the brain to hide evidence of foul play? Did Robert F. Kennedy have the brain removed to prevent him from being posthumously diagnosed with Addison’s disease? Or did JFK’s secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, have JFK’s brain removed to protect his legacy or something more cringe worthy? The answer may never be known for sure. But one thing is certain: the disappearance of JFK’s brain is one of the enduring mysteries of the Kennedy assassination.
Did the CIA remove JFK’s brain to cover up their involvement in his assassination? The CIA had a history of removing evidence to cover up their wrongdoings. For example, in the early 1950s, the CIA removed evidence in the form of brain tissue from deceased soldiers to cover up their involvement in Project MKUltra. Furthermore, it is known that the CIA was monitoring JFK in the months leading up to his assassination. Therefore, it is possible that they removed his brain to cover up their involvement in his death.
Did the Mafia remove JFK’s brain to hide evidence of foul play? The Mafia had a history of assassinating political enemies, and JFK was one of their most prominent enemies. Furthermore, the Mafia had connections to the CIA, and it is possible that they worked together to hide or destroy his brain.
Did Robert F. Kennedy have JFK’s brain removed to prevent him from being posthumously diagnosed with Addison’s disease? Robert F. Kennedy was JFK’s brother, and he was the one who arranged for the brain to be removed from his skull. It is possible that he did this to prevent JFK from being posthumously diagnosed with Addison’s disease, which would have been a blow to the Kennedy family’s image.
Did JFK’s secretary, Evelyn Lincoln, have JFK’s brain removed to protect his legacy? Evelyn Lincoln was JFK’s secretary, and she was one of the few people who had access to his brain. It is possible that she removed hid the brain to protect his legacy. However, it is also said that she stored the brain in a jar in her home so she could occasionally take it out and look at it.
The answer to what happened to JFK’s brain may never be known for sure. But one thing is certain: the disappearance of JFK’s brain is one of the enduring mysteries of the Kennedy assassination.
